Marcelo Burlon is the man behind Marcelo Burlon Enterprise - an assemblage of creative wit, innovation, entrepreneurship and vision - all pertaining to the business of fashion. While he served as the Editor-In-Chief of Rodeo Magazine, the now defunct title has been laid to rest and Burlon has been kept busy launching his latest editorial, THE SCENE. Fresh off the heels of the Milan and Paris men’s collections - Burlon spoke to us about Patagonia, Yoga, and why he sees himself as a “spaceship”.

How did fashion week treat you? Any highlight collections from Milan and Paris? What caught your eye?

Well, I was in Patagonia, back home for Christmas and new years and I got back the day before the shows started in Milan, so everything started very slow for me, even if there was Pink is Punk that day (which was one of the best parties that I did in terms of cool crowd and music…the DJ was Valerio Innella who does Versace PR and Stefano is the singer from Scarlets). I started with Jil Sander and the Prada show was pretty good, then McQueen gave us a sparkling moment after a boring Milan fashion week. Then I left to to go Paris to attend the Givenchy show, the Raf Simons, Comme des Garcons, Rick Owens, Ann Demeulemeester and Lanvin. These are the best shows that I’ve seen in Paris, yes!

You wear many hats - Event PR, Editor-In-Chief, DJ, Party Promoter. What was your first job?

My first real job was doing Press for Riccardo Tisci. We met and it was like magic. We became best friends after couple of days, so I’ve been working with him for the first 4 years. Then he took over Givenchy in Paris and I continued my carrier in Milan working as Event PR for Dolce & Gabbana, organizing some of the coolest events in Milan, like the Versace party with Prince live, the Gucci party with Roisin Murphy, a Christmas dinner for Martin Margiela, opening exhibitions for so many artists and store openings for different brands.

In September, you are launching a new magazine called THE SCENE? What can we expect from this? Why did you decide to launch a secondary magazine?

I decided to launch a new magazine because Rodeo Magazine wasn’t my real own vision and because I wanted to do something different. You can expect something new that you can’t really find around the globe, something that talks to you and maybe about you.

Tell us a little bit about PINK IS PUNK - the infamous party you founded. What’s unique about your party? And for those of us who have never attended - what can one expect?

Pink is Punk is like the party at your best friends house, very friendly and fresh. The music and the people mean everything. The space is cool but it’s just black walls with some red and blue lights. What’s unique at Pink is Punk is that you could spot on the dance floor people like Riccardo Tisci or Raf Simons, Donatella Versace or Jetrho Cave, Margherita Missoni or just a cool kid dancing on his Buffalo’s. We all know eachother, there’s a door selector so we know whoever will make it inside…

What are you currently working on these days? What’s occupying your time?

Now, I’m working on a Pink is Punk Moscow Special Edition at the Ritz Hotel roof top… and then I’ve been working on some other events with Prada and we just started to shoot The Scene already so….

Marcelo Burlon Enterprise is your one-man venture - your business enterprise which brings together all your skills. What exactly is Marcelo Burlon Enterprise? How would you define it?

I am like an enterprise - you know the big space ship that contains so many different things? That’s Marcelo Burlon Enterprise. It can be a DJ, PR etc…I like to bring people together, so it is like a bridge between many individuals. I am also styling and am represented by 2DM Agency.

You also have great taste in music. Who are some new musical talent that you can’t stop listening to?

Well, Devendra Banhart is one of my favorite artists. We did also a party in his honor and he was DJ’ing back to back with me. The XX also are another band that I really love and we are working on doing a party with them DJ’ing. I like different styles of music as you can tell but all of these have to have something romantic, almost melancholic. I like Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros or Gonzalo Aloras, an Argentinean singer that I met last December in Buenos Aires and we became friends. Lindstrøm & Christabelle did a good album also.

Rodeo stood out amongst magazines - showcasing your unique vision and mantra. But not that Rodeo is gone (but not forgotten), what other magazines are you currently reading? Any blogs as well?

Rodeo was a collaboration between myself and Tim McIntyre and a few really good people that we were working with. It was 2 heads with a very defined structure, so I wasn’t able to change that much. But, we had a lot of fun and it was my first experience as an Editor-In-Chief. I like to read Fantastic Man, CO32, Butt Magazine, sometimes Dazed & Confused and the T Magazine. I love Jak and Jil and Contributing Editor.

Who would be your dream client to collaborate with?

All my dreams came true already. I just want to work with nice people. I’m searching for quality in everything - work, personal life.

Who inspires you? What makes your creative juices flow?

The people, my friends, some old films.

How would you define your signature style? What are your top items that you always wear?

I don’t know how to define my style. I’m doing a mix of things. I can wear a Rick Owens shirt mixed with a Jil Sander jacket and Givenchy shorts with Ann Demeuleemester’s sandals.

What’s the most valuable fashion lesson you have ever been given? Any rules to live by?

No rules - just be confident in what you’re wearing. Follow the trends but have your own vision…

Take us through a typical day in your life?

My life is boooooring :-) Wake up at 9, yoga lesson with the amazing Anna Inferrera, meetings throughout the day, some lunch with clients, but most of the time my clients are also good friends so… My day by day life is never the same, keeps changing all the time. The only consistency that I have are my friends and family - the rest change everyday!

What do you do in your downtime?

I travel a lot. I like to go back home to Patagonia. I really do!!!
