With a combination of vision and unrelenting drive, young designer Brian Wood is able to deliver collections that reflect his skill, ability and determination.  As a menswear designer he focuses on cut, construction, clever detailing, and the use of unique color palettes in his collections.

Wood believes that the design process should be about having fun, and this is captured in his light hearted offerings.  Wood’s design aesthetic is a fresh forward fusion of high-end and contemporary street fashion; a utilitarian ideology based on providing men with an alternative, but practical style of dress. His appreciation for cleverly intricate details and tailoring is consistent from season to season.

Brian Wood strives to push the creative envelope in menswear, while keeping his designs wearable and functional.

What’s behind the name “NIGHT STALKERS”.

The inspiration for “Night Stalkers” explores the dark depths of human nature. Good boy by day, bad boy by night. Think Serial killers that go undetected stealthy living amongst us. Think rock and roll, think anthrax blaring in a van with no windows!

It appears there are “blood stains” on the cuffs and forefront of some of your clothes. What inspired this?

The blood stain detail was actually the initial design I thought up when designing the “NIGHT STALKERS” collection!! It ties back to the serial killer aspect. But I wanted to keep it fun and graphic and I thought it had an interesting look, creating the shirt into a piece of art.

From your “NIGHT STALKERS” to the “FLASH THE QUEEN” collection they seem almost yin and yang. Tell us a little bit about “FLASH THE QUEEN”.

Every season I like to challenge myself and move in a new direction. It also depends on the particular mood I am feeling at the time when I am drawing inspiration. My mood and imagination really reflects my collections. Flash the Queen was my spring/summer 2009 collection seen through the eyes of the anti-establishment within the old English club. This collection pulls inspiration from Wimbledon, prep, sport and forward street culture. It’s very clean and uniform.

What are your favorite materials to deconstruct?

I really love deconstructing garments. I am actually in the process of doing a project where I am deconstructing vintage POLO button front shirts w/ amazing prints and polo rugby’s. The polo shirts are from the years 1990 through 1997. After I deconstruct the shirts I am producing 6 – 8 patchwork button front shirts that will be sold exclusively at a retailer to be named!

What is one direction of designing you want to explore that you haven’t yet had the chance to?

I would love to move into children’s t-shirts. I feel my aesthetic is fun and light hearted and would really transcend to different age groups and genres. I also have been getting the bug to explore more on the fine arts side. Still incorporating elements from my designs but in a non wearable way!

If you had to pick one key item from your latest collection to wear for a month straight - what would it be and why?

It would have to be the black leather motorcycle jacket. It has a hand-sanded treatment, with concealed zippers and snaps. It has an amazing fit and is great everyday piece!
