THE JAMES NEW YORK, A Modern Vision of Classic Hospitality, to OPEN IN SOHO Summer 2010

Summer 2010 brings the recent addition of one of Chicago’s most loved hotels, The James, to New York City. Located on the SW corner of Grand and Thompson – The James NYC will offer 114 guestrooms with unobstructed views of Manhattan. Designed by the Office for Design and Architecture (ODA) in collaboration with Perkins Eastman and The James Design team, The James NYC will feature an urban garden, and a stunning rooftop pool deck and bar, complete with 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline.

In homage to the creative neighborhood it calls home, The James New York will feature a mix of local artists, both prominent and up-and-coming. This program is reflective of the brand’s commitment to the arts and is an extension of its sister property’s extensive cultural partnerships in Chicago.

Here is the first OFFICIAL rendering of what new landmark will be occupying Grand and Thompson…once summer arrives!

hotel-saint-cecilia

Located in Austin, TX, Hotel Saint Cecilia was conceived by Liz Lambert – the visionary hotelier, who was the brainchild behind the already established Hotel San José. Her next project consisted of opening a sister hotel to San José‘s established presence – and thus Hotel Saint Cecilia opened its doors in December 2008. With inspiration from the historical musical scene – this hotel draws its inspiration from the writers, musicians and artists of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Retro, glamorous rock-n-roll vibes create an ambience unique to Hotel Saint Cecilia’s private haven. Both eclectic and elegant, the Saint Cecilia has just 14 striking units scattered between the estate of a historic 1880 Victorian and modern bungalows.

Favorite hotel. Hands down - and this is only because I had the pleasure to stay at the Cooper Square Hotel a bunch of times. From their unconventional lobby (there really isn’t one) to their swift check in process (how did they even know I had even arrived…?) - everything about this Cooper Square (Bowery) hotel is unique. My favorite? The fruit platter and assortment of vintage magazines left on your bed upon arrival.

MAMA SHELTER - PARIS

Test User • 07.25.2009 • HOTELS1 COMMENT

Self described as a motley crew of owners and founders, including the co-founders of Club Med, activist Roland Castro, a French philosopher and more, Mama Shelter was transformed from its previous life as a parking garage, and the rest was left up to interior designer Philippe Starck to create a space for the adventurous traveller. Nestled way out in the 20th arrondissement (and a few minutes walk from the nearest Metro stop), Mama Shelter mixes affordable and luxury yet provides a luxury getaway that definitely doesn’t fail to impress. Pics below.
